“FLAGS FOR FALLEN VETS”
FLORIDA NATIONAL CEMETERY, BUSHNELL, FLORIDA
FLAG PLACEMENT 9 AM – SUNDAY MAY 29th
FLAG REMOVAL 9 AM - SATURDAY JUNE 4th
Flags For Fallen Vets is a non-profit mission group established on May 14th, 2012, for the purpose of ensuring an American Flag is placed on every Veterans Grave Site at EACH National Cemetery in the country for Memorial Day. There are 800,00+ interred American Veterans across the country that are not given this Hallowed Honor. Through Private and Corporate Donations, Volunteerism, and the Education of the Next Generation this organization will work towards NEVER allowing Americans to forget those who have served and sacrificed throughout our Countries History for the Freedoms we enjoy today.
Fort Cooper Chapter NSDAR is once again asking the Withlacoochee NSSAR to help volunteer in helping to place and remove American Flags at the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. This year Flag placement is Sunday May 29th at 9 AM and Flag removal will be on Saturday, June 4th at 9 AM.
Those of you wishing to caravan with Fort Cooper volunteers must meet at 7:45 AM at the Bealls Outlet parking lot (off Highland Blvd, Inverness). They will be leaving for the cemetery at 8 AM. DeeDee Wilcox will be the caravan leader. All will enter by the main gate then take a left at the stop sign and follow signs to section 301. Join our group of Fort Cooper volunteers and help us to make sure that Fallen Vets are NEVER FORGOTTEN.
*Dress casually, bring a hat, bring bottled water, bring 4” screwdriver.
*Flags will be passed out at 9AM.
*Flags only go on the front of a headstone, NOT on the back even if there is a name there. Place the flag 12” from the center of gravestone and 4” deep.
*When placing the flag, Read the veteran’s name Aloud and THANK THEM FOR THEIR SERVICE AND SACRIFICE.
For those planning to remove flags:
* dress casually
*meet at section 301
*bring old towel(s) or rags to wipe down flag staffs
* DO NOT PICK UP FLAGS THAT VARY FROM THE SIZE OF OUR STANDARD FLAG.
