Ladies Auxiliary – LYDIA DARRAGH MEDAL PRESENTATIONS
The medal recognizes the assistance of the ladies who work behind the scenes supporting SAR programs. It may only be presented once per year at the Annual meeting. Since the Medal was new this year they allowed for a “catch up” year.
The Medal depicts a colonial woman passing military information to a colonial officer mounted on horseback somewhere on a country road.

The Withlacoochee Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution held their Annual May meeting and installation of officers at the Inverness, Lakeside Country Club. A number awards were presented recognizing both members and community members. Our newly installed President, Edward Gingrich was presented with the Chapter Distinguished Service Medal. Immediate Past President Robert Folk was presented his Past President Pin by President Edward Gingrich and asked Bob’s wife, Ellie Folk, to do the pinning. Robert Folk also received several Certificates in appreciation of his outstanding service as president this past year.
Stephen Carl Brown and Mark E. Idle were inducted into the Withlacoochee Chapter Sons of the American Revolution by Chapter President Robert J. Folk. Registrar, John Pardee was present to present the new Compatriots with SAR membership Rosettes.

The following Ladies Auxiliary members were awarded medals representing their particular service during the year noted. – 2008 Barbara Lincoln, - 2009 Jean Nelson, - 2010 Maryann Teater, - 2011 Dorothy Day, - 2012 Kathe Echlin, - 2013 Barbara Sumner, - 2014 Ellie Folk, also a certificate of appreciation was presented to Lillian Gingrich.
Beverly Howard, a highly respected community educator, was presented our Bronze Good Citizenship Medal for her work with students in supporting our Elementary School Poster Contest. Beverly is, a K-12 Teacher on Special Assignment, supporting Social Studies teachers in the Citrus County Schools. Treasurer Jack Townsend made the presentation.
Our Chapter Poster First Place winner was Hailey Crawford, a fifth grade student at Brooksville Elementary School. Hailey’s Poster placed 2nd at the State level of the Sons of the American Revolution. She was a very surprised young lady as she was presented Checks by Chapter Poster Vice Chairman Larry Sturgeon and the State Ladies Aux. representative Dorothy Day. Checks were from Withlacoochee Chapter SAR, the State SAR and the State SAR Ladies Auxiliary.
Our JROTC Chapter recognitions includes 3 JROTC School programs in Hernando Count and 3 in Citrus County. Hernando County, Central HS Cadet, Temperance Jones, was selected as our first place JROTC cadet for 2014. She is a Junior, has a 4.2 GPA, recipient of the Ronald McDonald Scholarship, Vice President of the National Honor Society, and selected to be the JROTC Executive Officer in her Senior year. Chapter President, Bob Folk and JROTC Chairman, Jim Echlin presented Cadet Temperance Jones with a check for $250.00. Several members of Jones’s family and JROTC Instructor - Chief Mc Kelvin were on hand for the occasion.
Color Guard Members posting today were Commander Richard Sumner, Harley Nelson, Larry Sturgeon, Jack Townsend, Ed Gingrich, Tim Holme and Bob Folk.
