The Withlacoochee Chapter of the SAR released the winning entries in the 2016 Elementary School Americanism Poster Contest. Students produced the posters that focused on the theme "Captain John Barry, The Father of the American Navy". The poster contest acts as an aid for teachers in the curriculum regarding the American Revolution, "The War for American Independence". 375 Students from Citrus and Hernando Counties developed and submitted poster during the contest.
Poster #1
The winning 1st place poster was submitted by Milo Moore, from the Floral City Elementary School. He wins the first place cash award of $100 and the Outstanding Citizen Certificate. His poster now advances to the FLSSAR level of judging.

Floral City Student Wins SAR Americanism Poster Contest
The Withlacoochee Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution recently presented the first-place award in the2016-2017 Elementary School Americanism Poster Contest. The purpose of the contest is to aid teachers by creating interest and enthusiasm in the curriculum regarding the War for American Independence. The theme of the contest was, “Captain John Barry, The Father of the American Navy”. The first-place winner was Milo Moore, a Fifth-grade student at the Floral City Elementary School. His poster wins a $100 cash first place award, plus certificate, and will now advances to the Florida State SAR level of judging to occur in Orlando in late May. Milo is the son of Jennifer and Brian Moore of Floral City. The 2nd Place winner in the 2016 Elementary School Americanism Poster Contest, was Owen Hurley, a 5th grade student at the Homosassa Elementary School. Owen was presented with the Outstanding Citizen certificate and the second-place monetary award of $75. The Homosassa Elementary School has participated in the poster program in six out of the last seven years. The 3rd place poster was submitted by Mia Nogalski, from the West Hernando Christian School. She wins the 3rd place cash award of $50 and the Outstanding Citizen Certificate.

Third Place Winner of the 2016 Elementary School Americanism Poster Contest was Mia Nogalski of the West Hernando Christian School. Chapter Past President Clyde Johnson made the presentation of the Outstanding Citizen certificate and the $50 cash award. Withlacoochee Chapter SAR Members Promote Americanism Poster Contest at Floral City School.
Compatriots Norm Freyer, Harley Nelson and Jack Townsend recently presented a program to the 4th and 5th grade gifted students classes at the Floral City Elementary School. The presentation focused on the SAR Americanism Poster Contest, the theme of the contest, “Captain John Barry – Father of the United States Navy”, and the “Continental army uniform”, and the “Hunters uniform”. There will be about 30 students participating in the poster contest, and their attention on Revolutionary history will start after the first of the year.
