President General's Veteran's Day Message
Patriotism, the love and loyal support of one’s own country. That describes our Veterans. This is a small token, but it bears repeating often: Thank you for your service and sacrifices.
The Sons of The American Revolution are dedicated to promoting Patriotism. Our focus is on this Country’s founding, and honoring our First Patriots, Veterans of the American Revolution. Their rallying cry for our first taste of National Unity was the Declaration of Independence, which in 9 years will celebrate its 250th birthday. They would be proud to know our Country can still rely on men and women who stand and are counted when the need arises.
We are all descendants of the ideals that the Heroes of the American Revolution established through their 8 years of war. These Revolutionary War Veterans: men, women, children, white, black, immigrants of many nationalities, and citizens of the Colonies; rose to the occasion as do our Veterans. They did so because they believed in a cause larger than themselves.
Although we often only recall the commanders of the Army, Navy, and Marines, it was the common people who sacrificed, fought against enormous odds, and eventually won to secure our Freedom. Does this sound familiar almost 250 years later?
Benjamin Franklin remarked after the Constitutional Convention, “We have a Republic if you can keep it.” We descendants of these Heroes are honored to be in the presence of our contemporary Patriot/Heroes, our Veterans, because we see our Country in their hands as they keep our Republic protected.
Thank you again for your service.
