SCOUTING 2016
Eagles in Gulf Ridge Council - by Eagle Charlie Day
Gulf Ridge Council BSA held their congratulations reception for the 2015 Eagle Class. It was held to recognize a little over 200 Eagles that had done Eagle service projects and attained the Eagle rank
during 2015.
On May 5 th , 2016, Charlie Day, Withlacoochee Chapter Eagle Chairman, and his wife Dot
went to MacDill Air Force base to meet the two Eagle Scouts we sponsored and enjoy the event. The
location was the Waters Edge Club located in close proximity of the water. Each Eagle was introduced
and his Eagle Project briefly described. There were hors d'oeuvre (mostly large shrimp) and a fine sit down, served, steak dinner.
The guest speaker was Brigadier General Hector E.. Pagan, former
Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He spoke of praise for the Eagles and at the same time Challenged them to put their training to good future use, and if they have choices to make pick the one that was right. We had 4 boys at our table and we did get a chance to speak with them.
Eagle Lathan Dixon of Brooksville was at our table and has contacted me for information on the SAR Eagle contest. I will help him any way I can. This year makes my 60th year as an Eagle. I did get to speak about our Eagle program a little and pass out my SAR business cards.
Dot and I thought it was a very worthwhile Event. We encourage you to support scouting when ever
you can.
