SAR Elementary School Americanism Poster Contest
at Floral City Elementary School
5th Graders (Left) Christian Mundreanu, in the Runner-up position in the Francis Marion Poster Contest; and (Right) Malachite Davenport, the author of the poem, "A Fox Named Marion", that was inspired by the subject of the Americanism Poster Contest and is featured on the Withlacoochee Chapter web site. Compatriot Norm Freyer awarded both students the Gen. Francis Marion Medal, the official medal of the Swamp Fox Murals Trail Society.
Susan Barmon and a portion of her Gifted Students Class, all of whom participated in the Poster Contest, received a framed copy of the U. S. Constitution on behalf of the Floral City Elementary School from Compatriot Norm Freyer. The SAR Withlacoochee Chapter presents the copies of the nations original documents to share with schools something permanent, educational and patriotic.
Gifted Students Class teacher Mrs. Susan Barmon, was awarded the SAR Bronze Good Citizenship Medal for use of the Americanism Poster Contest as a learning tool for the History of the American Revolution. Mrs. Barmon proudly displays her medal and certificate with members of her class. The medal was authorized in 1895 and recognizes persons whose achievements are noteworthy in their school, community or state.
