At the October meeting of the Withlacoochee Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, DAR member, Vickie Brown, was awarded the SAR Martha Washington Medal by Chapter President Clyde Johnson. The Martha Washington Medal was authorized in 1971 and may be given by the National Society, a state society, or a chapter to a woman over 18 years of age in recognition of outstanding service to SAR. This medal may be awarded at the Chapter, State and National levels and may be awarded more than once if one of those awards is made by the National Society. A DAR member may receive the Martha Washington Medal if her service warrants it. The medal is gold in color and bears on the obverse a portrait of Martha Washington within the inscription "SAR Martha Washington Award." It is suspended from a chest ribbon of the SAR colors.
